Experimental study on hydrate saturation evaluation based on complex electrical conductivity of porous media

The hydrate saturation is a critical parameter in the evaluation of gas reservoirs. complex characteristics hydrate-bearing sediments pose challenges to reliability conventional geophysical techniques for evaluation. In this paper, we present study on developing novel approach characterize electrical properties porous media and evaluate quantitatively based parameters conductivity. laboratory experiments prepared samples with tetrahydrofuran forming sands simulate measuring conductivity at frequencies from 20 Hz 100 kHz. frequency-dispersion different saturations were analyzed, then three types hydrate-saturation models, denoted as conductance-based, polarization-based fusion developed in-phase conductivity, characteristic phase angle combination those two, respectively. A frequency (fc = 2 kHz) can be identified, where both imaginary component reach their minima. Archie's formula shows its capability model relationship between (i.e., conductance-based model), but higher than fc preferred because stable Archie only obtained that range. Linear correlations logarithms FE (frequency effect) slope relation FR ratio) obtained, serving models range fc. performs best perspective low errors high predicting saturation, more underlying physics conductance polarization have been incorporated. lower contrast angle, quadrature remarkable variation showing great potential new saturation-evaluation future.
